Opening clip - Thriller

 Opening clip - Thriller - escape room

Director - Adam Ribetil

Producer - Neal H

Writer - Maria Melkink

Box Office - 57.0 million

Distriubtor - coloumbia and sony pictures

Cast - Taylor Russell, Logan Miller , Jay Ellis

The opening clip begins with pelonstic sound of a clock ticking to reprsent the time in this game. The clock sound speeds up as the time goes to build up tension and create a sense of loss of time. A zoom out tracking shot is used to show the location of the scene. The lighting is dark and warm which shows a scary yet comftoable feeling towards the room. A still mid shot is then used to show the room as-well as the pleonastic sound of clock ticking still happening.

Our first actor gets introduced and falls from the ceiling through a establishing shot and then a tracking shot when he falls on the floor. An establishing zoom in shot then occurs when there is a important object he has his eye on. An elevated shot then happens once the actor touches the object. The walls are coming closer and closer and we can tell how frightened and worried he is due to the extreme close up shot of his face to show his expressions. Objects are falling from the ceiling using tracking shot to show the motion and how terrifying this. A below tracking shot is taken to show more of his emotions on his face, there is slow motion editing shots of things falling from the room to show fear and danger.

There are close up shots of what he is reading so the audience can understand and follow along with the story line. A tracking shot following him around in a 360 action. Pleonastic sound is increased over the top of the soundtrack for his heavy breathing to convey his fear and emotions during this scene. Small and short editing shots are taken to show the tension rising throughout this scene, to show the time is getting shorter and shorter. As the scene ends a fade to black screen is continued to end the scene with the last clip shot being a photo of his face screaming as he gets crushed.

 Furthermore, i believe that this scene shows the atmosphere and the amount of thrill that is going to be shown in the film. Overall the film shows the content and sneak peak of what is going to happen in the rest of the film which shows the tension and a lead of mystery to be left for the rest of the film, audiences want to watch more due to the no context behind the first clip. The tension rising first clip and soundtrack show imagination and suspense.

Opening clip - war

 Opening clip - war - greyhound

Director - Aaron Schneidier

Producer - Gary Goetzman

Writer - Tom Hanks

Profit - No

Actors - Tom Hanks,Stephen Graham,Rob. Morgan

This is a powerful film due to the writer being the same as the main character, he understands the way in which he wants to play the actor so he does it himself.

The opening clip opens with a voiceover soundtrack of a presentor explaining the current war affair happening during this time. There is a establishing and tracking shot in the sky following the planes. This shows the audience the genre of war already in the first few secoends of the clip. There is non-digetic annotation over the top of the clip explaining the issues and problems happening in this era of time during the war. This information gives the audience a time and date so explains that this is a fictional film based on a real life crisis.

Soundtrack is a fiere and powerful sound showing the brave soilders and army. There are close up shoots on the boats and tracking shots of the planes following around them, this again shows the audience the location and setting of the film. A fade to  black screen occurs showing the audience that the scene is over and there is a new location and scene occuring. There are peolonstic sounds of waves crashing against eachother proving to the audience the fear and danger that this mission is. A low shot is taken from the boat to show
the status and view of how powerful the boat is in this scene.

A fade shot occurs into our first character being introduced, the first dialouge is being introduced throught the character reading the bible. A extreme close up shot with a blurred background gets introduced before the face of the chafacter which shows the audience that he is willing to serve his country first and put anything before him. Proves his loyalty and compassion for his mission. The mood and lighting is dark and grey which shows his thoughts and depression whilst in the war, exmplains the horrors and sadness that comes from being in the war.

An extreme close up shot introduces the audience to his character, he looks the camera dead in the eyes and proves to the audience that he must be the main character due to his long duration shot time. The main actor is also Tom Hanks which engages the audiences behaviour and watch-time as he is a very succesful and well known actor.

Overall, i believe that the opening to greyhound was not the most engaging and tension building opening to a film, however it did introduce to the audience the setting / location aswell as the first character being introduced. There was no action or suspense building however this may lead to the audiences wanting to watch more.

Box office - 55.9 million

Actors - Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer , Powers Boothe

The clip opens up with an establishing scene of horses running,this shows the audience the genre of the film as-well as the location based of the film. Pleonastic sound is used on the horses hooves to show the arrival of the cowboys, as-well as non-digetic fast pace soundtrack. A new location is shot through a wide angle in a small village in the summer, A close up angle shows three men playing guitar which is commonly played in Spain or Mexico so shows the audience that it can be shown to an international audience. Diegetic sound in the background is calm and quiet until the cowboys turn up and then the non-digetic soundtrack turns into a dangerous sound.

An extreme close up follows and zooms down mans legs and onto his boots. The camera takes are shot and change between the man walking and the village people who are living there to show the tension and worry that they have from this man. Already this builds up tension for the audience as it leaves us asking questions about who this is? and whats happening?

Another extreme close up shot is taken zooming in on the mans gun, this shows the audience danger and fear and that action is going to be involved in this western film. Wedding bells then occur through a tracking shot and two groups of cowboys meet outside. The costumes are traditional and old fashioned cowboy costumes, which identify the exact genre as-well as add excitement and fun to the audience. The main character seems to be the head of the cowboy group, because of his different colours in costume, this shows leadership and importance as-well as it being red it also instigates the colour of death and blood.

An extreme close up shot is taken of the cowboys faces as they meet together showing fear and danger on the faces as-well as a close up shot of the bride looking confused. Gun shots are fired through tracking shots and extreme close up shots to build tension and pleonastic sound is used when the guns are fired to show dominate on which side is winning. Editing is fast motion and quick moving which creates a sense of urgency and danger in this clip.

Overall i believe that this opening clip reveals the genre of western through its costumes, setting and location as-well as the theme of action involved. I believe this opening clip draws audiences into the rest of the film as it leaves them asking about unfinished questions that they want answered.

Opening scene resarch - Horror

Opening scene research - Shutter island - horror

    Director - Martin Scorrose
   Producer - Mike Modovy
   Box office - 128 million
   Distributor - Paramount pictures
   Cast - leonardo dicaprio , Mark Ruffalo , Ben Kingsley

The opening clip opens up with a establishing shot of the fog and boat to show the audience the first location of the scene. The lighting is dark and ery to reflect the mood of the scene, the opening clip gives off depressing and mysterious vibe due to the fog and grey lighting given off.

The non - diegetic soundtrack is ery and frightening reflects a dark and haunted vibe when the beat drops after a few seconds which raises tension as-well as the location of the clip,

An establishing shot to show off the first character that has been introduced, presents himself as a sweaty and distraught man feeling ill on this ship. However the mood and lighting is still dark and gloomy which presents the theme of dark and mysterious. The soundtrack continues throughout this scene to engage the audience. A new character gets introduced through a close up of him looking out into the water.

Their costumes are old-fashioned detective costumes that prove that this film was based earlier and not in morden suits. They're both wearing dark, no colour costumes to present the mystery and depressed sense job that they are doing. The actor uses the word 'boss' to describe the other character which shows the audience their status in their jobs.

After the establishing shot and they're talking for a while about their upcoming job a flashback scene comes across, to show the audience the death of his wife. The flashback scene shows the love that she had for him which shows opposite of the scene which is happening. The waves interrupt the scene which then goes back to current time and back to the main scene and location.

The next scene approaches with an establishing shot to show the next location of the scene.

The opening scene to the film Shutter island as the genre of horror introduces the audience to two new characters aswell as the location and mood of the scene. The audience can tell that there are two detectives on their way to an island due to their costume and dialogue. The location is dark and mysterious due to the fog and the soundtrack. I feel as though this is an amazing opening scene towards a horror film as it gives the perfect analysis of whats going to happen in the film aswell a sense of mystery towards the end.

Opening clip research - sci-fi

 The martian - Opening clip research - sci-fi

Main actor = Matt Damon

Name = The Martian 2016

Distributor = 20th century fox

Money = Box office = 228.4m

Other actors = Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain

Director = Ridley Scott

The opening scene opens up with a wide shot to show the location and place of where this clip is filmed. The clip is shown in dirty, orange mountains with a sunset in the background. It looks like a quiet and peaceful location as there is nobody living there.The non-digetic soundtrack used over the top reprsents the peace and quiet which reflects back on to the wide shot angle used. Digetic dialouge is used over the close up and says 'nasa'. There is also a tracking shot of a space rocket and space car from this we understand the audience must understand that this is a sci-fi film due to nasa being a space administration company and the location of the film.

The main character gets introduced during this scene and the audience can tell that he is the main character due to the close up camera shots and the amount of dialouge that he has during this scene. One of the other charcters then calls him 'the capitian' which also answers the audiences theory about being the main character. There are more ac

tors introduced 'astronauts'  through this dialouge scene aswell as the change in location where two characters are working back in the ship./

An emergency button comes up with pleonstic sound to engage the audience. This alerts the audience that danger and excitment is about to arise with a extreme close up of the screen reading 'emergency'. There is a slow zoom in the womans face once she relaises something bad has happend. This creates emergency and worry in both the audience and the film.  The actors are scared and worried about the strom which creates tension for the audience as they are unaware of what is going to happen. This gets the audience engaged already as in the first few minutes of the film there is already a problem.

There are tracking shots following the astronaughts as they leave the ship and go out into the outside storm. Through the tracking shots you can feel there emotions and worries through through the shots aswell as the parallel sound following on to support the tension in this scene.

Overall i believe that this sc-fi film has the perfect msot enganging opening scene due to the opening shoot being based around the viewing of location. The clip of location engages the audience as its not a normal location it is out of space on mars. The art of an mergency happening in the first few minutes brings entertainment and engages the audience to watch the rest of the film aswell as being intrested in watching it.

Opening scene resarch - Action

Opening scene resarch - Action - Skyfall

Main actor = James Bond - Daniel Craig

Name = Skyfall 2011

Distributor = Eon Production / Sony pictures entiertaintment

Money = Box office 304.3 million

Other actors = Judi dench, Naiomie Harris, Javier Bardim

I choose the film Skyfall which is part of an ongoing series with James bond. The film Skyfall that was released in 2011 was directed by Sam Mendez. Sam Mendez produced and directed many other bond films before this.

The first scene opens the film up with a dark and blurry hallway which creates suspense and mystery before the film has already started. There is a long shot and blurred to show his stance. Then James walks up to the camera and the shoot becomes in focus, the shot is in the dark creating mystery until there is a small bright light shining on his eye and his face, this is an introduction to the main character and his blue eyes as that is a key feature that Daniel Craig is known for. Furthermore this clip introduces the character to the audience. This gives the audience an idea of how the film is going to be illustrated throughout.

A close up shot is then used when he holds up a gun. The gun represents death, violence and action. The audiences understand that the genre and tone of this film is a action through the action of gun. A tracking shot is used to follow him around the flat, to represent the suspense of the dead people in the room and watching the way James moves around in shock and confusion. The lighting is gloomy which represents the mystery in the room where the murderd's have taken place. The non-digetic soundtrack that is played over the top of this scene is quiet and ery which also follows an affect of mysterious.

A silhouette image is then used when walking out of the apartment to show the audience the location of the scene. From the busy location and surroundings the audience understand that this is a foreign country and global location. Another character gets introduced as we can tell that she is a main character due to the digetic dialogue used. The tracking shot that is used during the car scene represents the genre of 'action' as-well as the fast motion soundtrack to create a more intense scene. The car chase scene Represents the danger and risk that is going on which targets the audiences success in watching an action film. There is short and quick clips made in the editing to add more suspense which create's speed and danger.

The opening scene from Skyfall (James Bond) opens up with a mysterious murder followed by a car chase. The audience from the first few minutes in can already tell that this is a action film. Due to the car chase scene, short editing clips as-well as the non -diegetic soundtrack added onto the scene adds the dramatic suspense and danger and proven to be an action film. I believe that this was a succesful opening scene as it gave the audience an idea in what is going to be included in the rest of the film aswell as giving an engaging and exciting opening as the audience want to carry on and understand why there was a murder and car chase.
