Opening clip - war

Opening clip - war - greyhound

Director - Aaron Schneidier

Producer - Gary Goetzman

Writer - Tom Hanks

Profit - No

Actors - Tom Hanks,Stephen Graham,Rob. Morgan

This is a powerful film due to the writer being the same as the main character, he understands the way in which he wants to play the actor so he does it himself.

The opening clip opens with a voiceover soundtrack of a presentor explaining the current war affair happening during this time. There is a establishing and tracking shot in the sky following the planes. This shows the audience the genre of war already in the first few secoends of the clip. There is non-digetic annotation over the top of the clip explaining the issues and problems happening in this era of time during the war. This information gives the audience a time and date so explains that this is a fictional film based on a real life crisis.

Soundtrack is a fiere and powerful sound showing the brave soilders and army. There are close up shoots on the boats and tracking shots of the planes following around them, this again shows the audience the location and setting of the film. A fade to  black screen occurs showing the audience that the scene is over and there is a new location and scene occuring. There are peolonstic sounds of waves crashing against eachother proving to the audience the fear and danger that this mission is. A low shot is taken from the boat to show
the status and view of how powerful the boat is in this scene.

A fade shot occurs into our first character being introduced, the first dialouge is being introduced throught the character reading the bible. A extreme close up shot with a blurred background gets introduced before the face of the chafacter which shows the audience that he is willing to serve his country first and put anything before him. Proves his loyalty and compassion for his mission. The mood and lighting is dark and grey which shows his thoughts and depression whilst in the war, exmplains the horrors and sadness that comes from being in the war.

An extreme close up shot introduces the audience to his character, he looks the camera dead in the eyes and proves to the audience that he must be the main character due to his long duration shot time. The main actor is also Tom Hanks which engages the audiences behaviour and watch-time as he is a very succesful and well known actor.

Overall, i believe that the opening to greyhound was not the most engaging and tension building opening to a film, however it did introduce to the audience the setting / location aswell as the first character being introduced. There was no action or suspense building however this may lead to the audiences wanting to watch more.
