CCR2 Task “How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be disrupted as a real media text”?

“How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be disrupted as a real media text”?

For our opening title sequence as a group we decided that our target audience for BBFC was for a 12A. We choose this age category due to the no violence shown, no swear words (no dialogue) this led to our conclusion of a 12A not a PG because there is still blood and a horrific incident has happened at the end.

We aim for the more young adult male and sit down and watch type, for example ages 21-25 slow but tense moving film.

Recently, did a blog post on the BBFC and target audience here:

Aswell as a similarities post leading to the same lead and subject audience as ours:

Here our parts in our opening title sequence that engage our audience:

In this shot, it shows the audience the location of where the opening title sequence is filmed. The huge house in the background proves to the audience about the lifestyle that is shown of the "murderer" girl. This creates tension and suspense through the mystery of why and how she lives in this big house. This engages the audience as it is unknown and suspicious in which she owns this house along side the location and no human interaction. Very lost and quiet leaves the audiences with suspense and mystery.

Furthermore this shot also creates a sense of suspense and mystery as the tracking close-up shot is filmed from inside of the house, leaving the audience wondering who is looking outside and who is inside the house. This also suggests enigma codes through the mystery behind who is filming and if they have a connection to the murder of the child and the lady is being framed, this leaves the audience in suspense and cliff-hanger, as the audience can see whats happening but the actors in the film are still unaware.
Here the theory of Blumer and Katz is specific into engaging the audience through escapism and entertainment, leaving the audience in suspense and mystery helps engage the audience to carry on as they are intrested into whats going to happen.

During this screen-recording all clips used are still and long duration clips to build suspense for the audience. Doing this builds mystery and duration as they are close up shots of a crime scene yet no shots where all of it is shown, So the audience have to  build it together like a puzzle piece this creates tension and leaves hints yet the audience are still unaware of whats happening.

In this screenshot taken, there are 3 actors all in different costumes, explaining the scene to the audience. One is in police uniform, other is in detective costume and thirdly the last one is in forensics costume. This engages the audience because they would understand that a "major" incident has occurred here. Due to three different types of government force being used which creates suspense for the audience.

Tension is built here for the audience through facial expressions and no dialogue. This builds tension and suspense for the audience as they are unaware of what is being said as-well as diegetic sound that comes with it.

In this clip, it is the ending of our opening title sequence, it ends with a fade to black as soon as the door shuts. The lady is getting put into a police van and the detective shuts the door harshly and the screen cuts to black screen with titles on it. This leaves suspense and engages the audience as this is left on a cliff-hanger, of what is happening to the woman? Leaves the audience with rhetorical questions and leaves them wondering whats going to happen to the woman. This leads the audience on into watching and carrying on through our idea of engaging the audience.

Oveall i think our opening title sequence was successful sful in which we engaged the audience, through suspense and tension leaving the audience wondering whats going to happen next. However i feel as though our opening title sequence could have ended on a better cliffhanger leaving the audienc even more engaged. This could have been done through a sneak peak about what happend to the boy who got run over or futhermore whoever was watching through the window.

Here is my poster for our opening title sequence "The Blame Game"

👈

When creating this poster i wanted all aspects of our opening title sequence to be hinted. Firstly i found a background that would fit perfectly to our theme of "crime thriller" alongside creating awareness and excitement for the audience to watch.
I choose for the background to be of number cones because it engages the audience and enhances the genre of crime, number cones usually suggest an investigation about murder or death so the audience would be attracted to this.           Secondly i added blood to the background to also engage the audience into being interested in the gory, criminal side of our opening title sequence so it is appealing to all different types of genre of audiences, as-well adds more depth and interesting view to look at.

For the font i used "lovelo" with a shadow white behind it to represent our genre in this poster, which plays a big part of engaging the audience to your film. Our font is bold and bright making it clear to the audience what our name of our film is called and is shown in big letters as-well as the small letter introducing us to key parts of the film that the audience may be interested in. For example, important names and production teams.

 A-swell
as this i have also added rating stars to engage the audience on reviews, as some audience members get bias based on stars. Furthermore i added the BBFC rating on there to furthermore engage the audience into how gory, and what type of film they are getting in to in addition mentioning when our film is due to come out (coming soon)

Our opening title sequence would be distributed through bbc. Doing a crime-thriller in England would distribute best through the BBC. Due to their most common British films being connected through this industry. BBC i player studios started to release their distribution in 25 December 2007 through their platforms of Adobe Flash.
Films disruspted through the streaming platform of BBC i player contain:

Blue story:
Location- London
Blue story was streamed on different platforms however also streamed on BBC, this led to not it being officially produced on BBC but streamed and played regularly.

Imitation game:
Imitation game was produced and distributed by StudioCanel. Based in London and streamed on different platforms led to it becoming a top award film, aswell as being released in cinemas and being praised in newspapers and magazines for being a top rated "film of the year".
Alongside on the streaming platform BBC being under the category of "have to watch"

Edge of darkness:

The edge of darkness is about a homecide detective ”Craven” starts investigating the death of his daughter. He uncovers her old and secret life, in the process he also discovers a large gouverment secret that was invested into the death of his daughter. The similarities to our opening title sequence and this film colloid as the child has been murdered and the parents is investigating into the issues and reasoning behind why this has happend.

All of these films are British films, and location is based in Britain and London. Alongside both being produced on a streaming service yet still involved through the BBC streaming service.

Based on our target audience our opening title sequence would work best being on the streaming platform of BBC i player. Marketing our sequence through advertising on televisions and on bilboards through my poster above in train stations to get the correct "London working" audience.
So when travelling on the tube or train the audience see and get influenced into watching. Be directly distributed into BBC i player on direct streaming yet through advertising the poster to the correct audience. (21-25age).
Futhemore being adveristed through adverts on tv of simiular audience watchers who it would be suggested towards leading to the aimed audience of 21 -25 and creating a bigger sensation through the word of mouth alongside on new media like social media.
