Idea 3 opening title sequence

 Opening bath scene.

Genre - Crime and passion

Actors - young woman for flashbacks and her boyfriend during flashbacks

The scene opens with a light, relaxed and calm bath scene of a woman getting ready for a bubble bath with candles a book etc. Very Calm and gentle vibe to the opening scene.

(She is an older woman now)She then gets into a the bath and is all relaxed, closes her eyes and flashbacks come to her when she closes her eyes:

(During flashbacks she is younger around early 20’s)

Flashbacks to her laughing with this man, flirting, fun holidays, romantic dinners and then arguing , he has aggressive behaviour, blood on her hands, her crying, him chocking her on the last flashback. (Hectic , good and bad memories, fast flashbacks)

She opens her eyes with a large gasp and chocking as if she felt the flashback happening to her again and then the scene ends in suspense.

The rest of the film is going to be based upon her meeting this man, falling in love and a court case which she is being charged with murder when she was just defending herself, she ends up being not guilty due to self defence and the abusive and manipulative man that he was. This bath is the first bath she is having after coming out of prison.

Idea 2 outline opening title sequence

 Idea 2:

For my opening title sequence, I wanted to go through the genre of thriller and mystery. My idea was based around a murder scene and being trapped underneath in a swimming pool.

I want the title sequence to convey of a a pool cover shutting over the top of the pool, slowly to create tension. Small clips of knives and blood and screaming, as though someone has been trapped undearneath the pool cover.

The opening will start with someone in the pool at night and small close up clips with shutting the pool, screaming, under the water scare.

Realising they are trapped under the pool and screaming ends the title sequence.

Soundtrack will contain calm and subtle music at the start with then tension driving music uprising on the soundtrack.

Cast - someone swimming underwater, some mystery person shutting the pool purposely.

Location - swimming pool.

If the title sequence finished I would want the film to carry on being based upon where has the person trapped underneath the pool has disappeared to? As well as the person trying to escape and give up.

Idea 1 for opening scene

 Idea1:

For my first idea i have based it on the genre of thriller.

The Outline of the idea is based around a girl mid 20's getting ready for a night out with her friends, she leaves the house and gets injected by an unexpected mystery man.

Location - inside and outside of her house

Cast - one presenter needed on tv, mum , girl (main character), mystery man

- She's looking at her phone not concentrating on whats happening on the tv sat in the kitchen whilst her mums talking to her about what shes doing tonight. (the tv is talking about the recent cases of a man injecting people and nobody knows the killer or whats happening with this injection).

- she gets a phone call from her friends, saying to be ready in however long for a night out, gets excited

- she starts getting ready for a night out doing her hair makeup and shower montage (very innocent )

- realises how late she is for her night out and rushes out the house, attempts to lock the door, drops her keys and picks them up and then falls to the floor.

- injection pen falls to the floor, man in all black mystery man walks away slowley without showing his face

- girl lying on the floor

- leaves the audience wondering if shes dead or alive or whats happend to her.

The rest of the film is based around an in inspector and the police force investigating the reasoning the reason behind this, due to the injection of death to girls aged around 18-20 around the country. Until the police work out its someone in the police force.

Director:

The film director manages the the purpose and creative aspects behind film making. The directors have the role of choosing the cast members, production design and the creative aspect behind the film making. Martin Scorese is an American director who directed the film of good fellas, wolf of wall street, shutter island. According to the media he is the most ifluncial and greatest director in film
industry.

Camera operator:

The role of the camera operator is to make sure they capture the action. They are behind the camera shooting the shoot and making sure they have the correct angle aswell as the correct shot. Editor's role are for the media is being resposible for checking facts, spelling, names and over reading the script to make sure that the script is in perfect shape and form for the film to carry on. William Goldenberg is an american film editor, who has one best film editing for one of his best films "argo".

Comparing title sequence:

Comparing title sequences- Grease

Grease

The title sequence gets introduced and hints to the audience the genre in many ways. Firstly they introduce characters through the drawings and sketch with upbeat and postive soundtrack, they introduce the actors snd the character there playing using the words "as". This tells the audience that the genre is a musical.

During the title sequence, key names appear that are main actors or produced through the art work and soundtrack. Grease have used creative and funways to introduce the actors and characters into the film through the the style of animation which helps establish the tone and gives postive, fun and bright vibe.

The tone of the title sequence brings a postive vibe through the cgaracter drawings and upbeat soundtrack, this introduces the audience to a fun and different film

From the opening title sequence the audience gets hint of the location and time based around only the opening scene, firstly the soundtrack mentions the time based around the song, aswell as this the costume gives the audience hints of the time due to the girls dresses and hair and the boys slick back her and funky jackets which were famously populour in the 1950's. Aswell as this the opening scene is located in america due to the diners and cars which were also famously populour drawing this time.

Narrative is suggested through the character stereotypes. This being the blonde, rich girl being introduced as the main character and the boys wearing their costume instigating strong and bold character. Aswell as this as the title sequence finishes with a transition fade drawing to a screen to establish the high school setting importance. The highschool setting also links into the sterotype setting importance aswell as the suggestion towards romance from the juxtapostion of the mian two roles being male and female.

Four characters gets introduced during the title sequence through the drawing and animations. During the animations the audience get a hint of the characters personalities and differences. Firstly the first girl that gets introduced you can tell is the main character due to her long shot scene and the style in which the director decides she gets introduced. She wakes up in a rich bed and dressed perfectly as-well as this she gets dressed by birds hinting towards the character of "snowhite" who gets helped by animals.

American horror story:

The title sequence gets introduced and from the first glims the audience can tell the genre straight away. The genre is horror, the audience understand this due to the dark and strict lighting straight away. The font proves the genre through its gothic/black style which gives off a creepy and terrifying first title sequence.

The tone gets set through the soundtrack, as the music producers decided to add atmosphere and effect which creates a disturbing sequence for the audience which puts them off the edge and reiterate and reminder of the genre.

The location is America due to it being hinted in the name "American horror story", based in a house basement which the audience understand that it is haunted due to the narrative and tone of the title sequence. We can tell that it is based in a house basement from the one shot of somebody walks down the stair, this also questions the narrative and character. No actors or characters face get shown yet the audience gets hinted that there must be a killer involved aswell as the clips and shots of babies and baby clothes. This draws the attention of the audience in aswell due to the fact that we have no idea what is going to happen just parts of a puzzle piece that havent been put togother yet. The time piece is also uncovered due to the baby clothes and props used in this clip you can tell that it is not a morden set opening clip.

Titles appear through fade to black and the font of the names of producers, actors, directors etc. To reitirate to the audience the terrfying clips which lead back to it. The clues the audience get given about the narrative are unanswered questions. Who? What? When? The clip hints towards the film being about discovering and uncovering due to the flashlight used in the clip, aswell as the white female dress which could sterpotypically be involved with the victim.

Futhermore the editing is quick and replayed, there are slow motion clips to reorsent horror and quick clips to reprsent the scary and unknown attention on these props. However the soundtrack used over the top of the clip is disturbing and sounds of ery and frightning with a hint of morden / old feel from the music.

In conclusion i believe that "American horror story" and "grease" are two very good opening title sequences, due to there obvious genre topic and soundtrack to establish the tone of the film, aswell as this creating two very different atmopheres towards thier film. They are both creative and completly oppossites yet very effective. However i believe that "American horror story" is a better opening clip, due to the genre being obvious and complete straight away from the audience aswell as this creates an engaging soundtrack and hints towards the narrative and what is going to be revelaed later on, also leaves the audience questioning which helps the audience be engaged with the title sequence.

Titles used at the start of the film reflect tone narrative and genre through colour, font and the way it is presented. For example Coraline:

Coralines font type is weird and quirky as-well as the narrative giving off information and key elements of the film. This gives a view to the audience about the way genre is going to be observed.

Another example is code 8, from this title sequence the font is used as a "cryptic computer" font to preview the title called 'code' aswell as the red representing blood and death in the title and the narrative being video shots representing computer hacking and what not.

Opening scene - Drama

Opening scene drama - call me by your name

Director - Luca Guadagnino

Producer - Peter Spears,Emilie Georges etc

Writer - James Ivory

Box office - 18million

Distributor - sony entarirtainment pictures

The genre gets established staright as the first few sedcdoends in begin, we see two new characters talking on the bed, with the boys top, we can only assume this is only his sister or girlfriend we can tell this is drama film due to the lack of action and more quiet and laied back film.

The opening scene introduce's us to two new characters through a pan shot of them in italy. This shows us the location in which the scene is based on. A low shot then occurs of the boy looking out the window to reprsent his wealth and his status in this film. The audience understand that he is the main charcater due to his screen time and primarly always tracking shots following him, with everything he does, so the audience understands this.

Text is shown on the screen to show the audience the location and time of the scene helps the audience get a better understanding. It reads 'summer 1983', this gives the audience relevance and better understanding of the film, we can also tell that this is based in summer due to the bright, hot setting outside with all the windows open. Aswell as the costumes being shorts and sunglasses on every character. An above tracking shot is used to follow the car entering the driveway, an above shot is kept, to show the interaction between the characters but not introducing the new characters to the audience yet.

Three new characters gets introduced with an interaction through a dialoyge scene of a man coming to stay at the familys house. The young man invites the man into his bedroom and a close up shot is shown as he lays down on the bed.

This film is targeted to a young adult audience due to the main characters being teenagers we know this because of their costumes and anarisms. This also means that the audience can releate to the actors and the link between what is going on.

In conclusion the opening scene 'call me by your name' is succesful and perfect for the targeted audience aswell as a good drama. The opening scene invites us to follow the life of the main character and works well with leading the audience in to watch more.
